Montana, the popular New Zealand wine and brand in Pernod Ricard’s stable is being renamed to Brancott.

It’s not just a makey-uppy name, as the brand will take its new name from one of their wineries set up in the 1970s. Back to their roots.

Montana, isn’t that in America?

We’re assured that what’s in the bottle won’t change and the renaming is just a rebranding exercise, the Brancott name being already used in the US because of potential confusion with the state of Montana.

I assume that Montana, the US state, is or soon will be making wine in sufficient quantities to warrant any confusion.

Rugby World Cup 2011 sponsors

The name change is timely as they’re also an Official Sponsor of the Rugby World Cup 2011 which takes place in New Zealand.

The brand is predicted to be well received in Ireland particularly after Ireland confound their critics and beat Australia, South Africa on the way to a historic win over New Zealand in the final.
