What’s in your wine? Channel 4 Dispatches (from 2008)

This is an oldie (2008) but a goodie to watch. If you have the interest and/or patience to watch it, I’d be interested to hear your tuppence worth, particularly wine drinkers – does it surprise or scare you. I’ll hold off on my commentary here.

They add sugar to champagne!!! Hardys used yeast in their merlot!!! My god these people should be shot!!!
It’s amazing the way they can manipulate things to sound so sinister, any person who doesn’t know anything about the production of wine could easily be mislead by this drivel.
And of course they had to have Nicolas Joly in there so he can bash anything that isn’t biodynamic….
I know, Warren, but there is merit to the ingredients on the bottle. But the whole “there’s sugar in your Champagne” plays on the blissful ignorance of punters. Dosage is not something they know or care about, but it was twisted into something a little sinister.
I’m all for ingredients being listed on bottles, like the majority of everything we consume, but as you said they are praying on the lack of knowledge of the general public.
It’s scaremongering of the highest order.
