There are some classic wine and food matches and they’re arguably overly discussed online. Some are sublime, others subjective.
What about pairing a particular piece of music? David Brubeck’s Take Five with a St. Emilion anyone?
Have a listen and suggest what wines you’d put with what music. Winner gets CD and a gift certificate from Americanwinery.com.
I’m resisting the temptation to write an essay here.
For Sketches of Spain, I’d choose something with its feet on the ground but its head in the clouds, or up where the clouds would be if there were any. And there’s no reason to avoid Spanish wines, I’d have thought.
What came to my mind was Bubble Brothers’ DO Montsant, brao, with the ethereal, alcoholic vigour of Garnatxa/Grenache and the earthier depths of Samso/Carignan holding the blend down. Both come from old vines and traditional varieties, but the wine is tremulous, alive and looking forward.
Those two silhouettes are short-circuiting sky and land: sinewy volts you can hear and taste.
I hope that’s precious enough for the prize…
Looks like you win Julian!
What does he win Lar?
I don’t think it’s possible for men to enjoy wine with music, mainly because it’s too difficult for a man to do 2 things at once (or at least that’s what I’m told). Women would be much better at this kind of thing. Therefore Julian must have either 1. been talking pants or 2. copied his answer from some female co-worker, therefore Julian must be disqualified.
Who wins so?
If I’m going to be disqualified, I’d very much prefer it to be for 1. talking pants, assuming that (even notional) victory entitles me to a last request. Please.
I’d be much more happy, of course, to just plain old win.
I’m surprised the American readership didn’t fall on this like wolves, though.
And we have a winner…Julian. All hail King Julian (My toddler son is a big fan of the Madagascar movie)
