Wine Library TV versus BBR Podcasking

Having read the Online Inspiration series over at Irish Wine Contemplations, I’ll add another comparison to the mix: Wine Library TV versus the Berry Brother’s Podcask.

This time with a Christmas twist.

Alun Griffiths talks about his picks for Christmas Day.

In their latest video, Alun Griffiths talks about his Christmas wine selection.

Different approaches, different audiences

If you’ve watched both, it’s pretty clear that each of them take a different approach to wine online.

Berry Bros. is all about the wine. At times it seems more like a wine lecture. This could be down to its purpose, to inform rather than to entertain. While there’s not as much engagement as Wine Library TV, it’s still very informative. Berry Brothers also have a good 6 episode “Virtual Wine School” as part of their podcasking series, available on the BBR website (also available on YouTube) which is a truly great introduction to different grapes and wines. Definitely worth checking out, by the way.

On the other side of the pond, Gary Vaynerchuk, is his own words, “brings the thunder” and his infectious personality, love of the NY Jets, basketball, and of course, wine make for an entertaining and insightful show five times a week. The guy is a machine.

To coin a phrase from Will’s commentary on Wine Library TV versus the Wine Doctor,

“Comparing these two sites is like comparing chalk and cheese”

It’s clear that these two sites are completely different. However, that’s not to say one is better than the other. They’re both great and we should be thankful that we have such excellent content, available for free.

How I’d improve the Berry Bros. & Rudd Podcasks

I really like going into the BBR shop in Dublin. Their staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable so I’d like to see them loosen their ties a little and perhaps bring the personality from the shop floor into their cleverly named “podcasks”.
