Tasting note from Berry Brothers
“Barossa Valley Shiraz is justifiably one of Australia’s iconic wine styles; a true terroir wine, born of a 150 yo Lutheran culture, ancient pre-phylloxera vines, prized loam over limestone terra rossa soils and continental climate. Elderton’s take is a classic: rich, smooth and seductive.
“Deeply dark with rich, stewed plum, chocolate, coconut and spice aromas while the palate’s thickly textured with lush blackberry pie and cream flavours, a hint of cinnamon and spice, rounded off with a grilled meat edge.”
did you have a bad Barossa experience previously? Check out Rockford wines if you can, a definite highlight of the area.
Hi Rowan,
Yep, a few dodgy ones from the supermarket shelves – Lindemans etc. – more generic South Australia than Barossa, though.
I thought this was fabulous Lar, a true terroir wine, which seems to be the direction now from the better wine-makers in the region. Barossa is no longer just about the big in-your-face fruit and body.
What I particularly liked was the acidity and minerality – perfect for food – with a nice graphitey texture.
I’m salivating again at the memory of it!
